I am 5'8" 135 lbs, and I haven't been taking care of my body lately. I would really like to clean out my system to help with my skin, digestive tract, and stamina, but I fear losing weight if I cut out such things as carbonated beverages that provide a good portion of my caloric intake. Are there any detox diets that can be followed without weight loss and healthy food substitutes that will sustain weight?

you take the fruit diet for 2 weeks and then strat eating wheat bread , brown rice and tuna …cucumbers ..and jilt the soda . More water …and eat 3 meals in a day

Also take a good quality multi B complex supplement as the B group of vitamins is essential for healthy digestive, neural and immune system functioning. As they are a water soluble complex our bodies can neither store or produce them. As such we need to replace them on a daily basis or suffer from the stress related side affect.

Drink more fresh filtered water too as the happiest and healthiest body will always be the most hydrated one…… geez, we need at least 2 - 3 litres of water on a daily basis to hydrate ourselves ourselves properly….. we need at least 2 litres just to maintain aspiration (to breathe)!! Water, Water, Water, is probably the single most important thing you can do hun.

I've seen Dr. Natura's Colonix, and Dual-Action Cleanse, and some others of this stature, but they're pretty expensive. Are there any other good ones

Healthy people don't need enemas. That is naturopathic nonsense that the body is full of toxins.
Eat a balanced diet and get regular exercise.

I need a detox diet to eliminate all the cr"p I've eaten. I want to purify my body and maybe lose some weight through this. Any ideas, personal experiences?

only advice i can offer is drink lots a water, it flushes the system out and is good for the skin,

colon cleansing is just plain silly. It was proven to not be of any medical benefit in the early 1900's, unless of course you are constipated or are having a medical procedure. By removing what is in the colon you also remove what is called normal flora, which is bacteria that normally live in your colon. You need this to keep you healthy. As far as the weight loss, your belly will look flatter, until you eat and need to have a bowel movement. If you are concerned about your bowels, a stool softener might help. It is normal to have a bowel movement as often as twice daily to as infrequently as every other day. Every person's body is different.

There is a very broad range of colonics, so there can't be a single answer, but generally they will cleanse your colon, particularly the longer-term systems.

The colon is very important in general health, and is very often unhealthy when a person eats a western diet. Fecal impactions, bacterial overgrowth, stricture and diverticuli are unfortunately very common in the western meat-and-carbohydrate diet.

The most effective colon cleansing products are those that are multi-stage, starting with an adsorptive mixture like bentonite clay that leach out poisons and toxins from impactions, then pass them out, followed by an herbal 'roto-rooting' course using such things as black walnut, insoluble fiber, anti fungal/parasitics like clove/garlic etc. to soften and remove the impactions and clean out parasites. Finally, a long course (4-6+ weeks) of systemic herbal cleansing and immune system supplementation to prevent recurrence should finish the job.

The best remedy I know of for IBS is Peppermint Plus by Enzymatic Therapy.
Probiotics help too.

Well, Mike S was the closest… they do help you to poop, and they are often similar to a high fiber diet.
However, Colon cleansers are much more potent and powerful than a high-fiber diet, which is why they cost so much more, as he so eloquently put it. That's why many people prefer them if they don't like what would be required in a high-fiber diet…. it gets it over with faster. It's most beneficial for people that don't eat a lot of fiber, but want to change to a healthier diet with more fiber because it "gets you through the transition" faster. Simply put, in that situation, you'll have more liquefied stools for only a few days instead of a few weeks with a diet change.

Overall benefits for Colon Cleansers is that most people feel cleaner, healthier, and more energetic… like after a good poop or after you've been on a high-fiber diet for a while. Most people that stick with a full cleansing tend to repeat them every so often if they don't have enough fiber in their diet.
As far as brands to get, anything with a good variety of ingredients from a good quality company (which most that are sold in stores are) would be just fine. As long as there are at least 3-5 ingredients for cleansing, it should be fine, but the best bet is a few sources of fiber and preferably some probiotics (like Acidophilus, for example).

i see lots of advertising about stuff that stays in your intestines and colon. i hear that a clensing should be done once a year. the same is recommended about colonal irrigation. which is the better treatment? does anyone know or are these marketing gimicks to scare us into having these treatments done.

Keeping your digestive system functioning properly is one of the most important health measures to take. So yes start with a good cleansing. Your body is quite resilient so don't be too afraid of which method is safe there are several elixers available at your local health food store. Heavy Metal de-tox is another name for them. You may also want to clean your liver and Gall as well. One home remedy that really works is to consume nothing other than as much of a gal. of apple juice for one day then at around 5 pm. take a mixture of 3 tbls. lemon juice and 3 tbls. of olive oil. Not too tasty but this is very effective. Wait 15 min. and repeat 3 times. The toughest part for me was to lye on your right side for the entire night. I wont detail it but you will be amazed at what you pass the next day. Once you have Cleaned house it is important not to eat foods that will block it again like bleached flour and white rice.
