It took quite a few years but Emily eventually made up her mind that she had it with her husband’s excessive and hazardous drinking. She was tired of seeing Barry come home after 1:00 AM from drinking rather than spending quality time with her and their three daughters. She was also drained from the DWI Barry recently got. Additionally she was sick of making explanations for her husband when he couldn’t make it to work on a regular basis due to his problems with drinking. Not only this but she was nervous and depressed about the fact that their relationship was getting worse due to Barry’s unhealthy drinking. And lastly she was exhausted from the unstable financial jam into which he had put his family due to his abusive and careless drinking behavior.

When Excessive and Hazardous Drinking Inspires a Person to do Something Productive About a Person’s Problem Drinking

One Tuesday morning when Emily was pondering what she could do about her husband’s destructive cycle of  abusive drinking behavior.

So she looked in the yellow pages under “alcohol rehab” and located many rehab facilities that were all located less than thirty-five miles away from where her husband and she lived.

Due to the fact that she didn’t know much at all about these rehab centers, she finally made up her mind that she needed to call some of them and ask some important questions. When she called each treatment center she identified who she was and articulated that her spouse was manifesting excessive and hazardous drinking behavior. She also articulated that Barry, her husband, had a quality health insurance program at work and that outpatient or residential alcohol treatment would be covered if a doctor in the company health network called for the rehabilitation.

At one rehab facility, Emily was amazed that she was able to converse directly with a physician who suggested that she come in to talk about her husband’s abusive and excessive drinking behavior in more detail.

Emily Talks to a Healthcare Practitioner About Her Husband’s Irresponsible and Abusive Drinking

When Emily arrived at the rehab center, she filled out some paperwork and then after about five or ten minutes got to see a healthcare practitioner.

After listening to Emily go over her husband’s abusive drinking, the therapist in a caring but firm manner explained to Emily how she more likely than not contributed to her husband’s abusive drinking through the years by justifying his behavior rather than letting him go through the outcomes of his harmful drinking behavior.

Emily Finds Out She Has Been Enabling Her Husband’s Abusive Drinking

Stated more precisely, the psychologist told Emily that she may have been accidentally enabling Barry’s hazardous and abusive drinking behavior. The doctor also stressed the fact that even though Emily would not be able to control Barry’s actions, with the encouragement and support of the rehab team at the treatment clinic she would not only be able to learn how to avoid contributing to Barry’s careless and abusive drinking but she would also be able to learn how to help him schedule an appointment at the rehab clinic so that he could go over his careless and abusive drinking behavior with a healthcare professional.

Fortunately after Emily explained this to Barry, and he saw that she was not joking, Barry told her that he had been very anxious about his careless and hazardous drinking behavior and that he was quite relieved to realize that Emily wanted to do something affirmative about his excessive and abusive drinking behavior. As a result, he made an appointment to see a therapist at the local alcohol rehab facility.

Barry Agrees to See a Healthcare Professional About His Irresponsible and Hazardous Drinking

While simply calling a rehabilitation program does not mean that a person’s drinking problem behavior will become a non-issue or that one’s warning signs of alcoholism or the alcohol abuse signs one displays will simply disappear, scheduling an appointment is without a doubt a required factor in the treatment process. And due to the fact that Barry was serious about getting rehab for his careless and hazardous drinking, the probability for a successful recovery was considerably enhanced.
